Well, what can I say? These were the best times of my life (although I didn't know it at the time!).  I have so many wonderful memories of this school. And I lived on Carroll Street, so it was a pleasure. I walked by it recently, and it really has not changed much. When it opens in the fall, I might just stop by the book fair!

I don't know why, but I started thinking about my school the other night and thought I would look it up. My family and I where one of the first Cuban families in this school.  To me this school was my family. My home life was less then perfect, so I was in the church choir and girl scouts. I used to help with the deaf children and it came in handy when I had a hearing impaired daughter. Well, I don't know how things are, but I hold this school very close to my heart. I think a lot of who I am today is because of my teachers and the nuns I spent so much time with.

A wonderful, wonderful childhood and experience at SFX. Wonderful Sisters and lay teachers like Sr. Mary Costanza, Sr. Marion, Miss Ganay, Sr. Olympia and I were friends.  Great friends.  I can still remember going to the Lyceum for the bazaar each year. Jumping rope in the huge playground, marching in the St. Patty's Day Parade as a Girl Scout.  SFX is absolutely the foundation of my journey with the Lord.  Thanks!

I still go to school at Saint Francis Xavier. I am in the 6th grade and will be going into 7th. I have been a student of SFX school since I was in Kindergarten, and I have learned a lot from both Sister Kathleen and the teachers.  All of the teachers at SFX are very skillful and are interesting in what they are saying and teaching, and in a few years I will be able to go to high school will all that I learned in all my years in Saint Francis.

I had a great education, had great teachers, and I made all my Sacraments at SFX., I have also attended the reunions. I was a member of the Rosary society in later years I also was a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack #22.  All my children attended SFX. I have very fond memories of the school and Church.

I can't believe St. Francis has a web-site. I have so many childhood memories of this place. I attended grades 1 to 5... I met a lot of lovely people (1985-1989).  So Melinda, Danna, Melissa Washington would love to get in touch with you guys! Also anyone else from that period. Sister Kathleen was the principal at that time. Is she still around. I can't remember the secretary's name but she was the sweetest. Sister Rosemary very nice teacher! Never had her as a teacher, but all my siblings did, and right before I got the opportunity to have her as a teacher we moved!

I have so many good memories of St. Francis Xavier School and Church. I would love to get together with my former classmates. Sister Claude Maria was my second grade teacher. I last saw her at my brother Jerry's funeral. Jerry also attended St. Francis and was taught by the Franciscan Brothers.

I remember wearing the SFX hat rolled up (a no-no), but the "cool" girls wore the hats rolled up during recess time and then the pin came off when entering the school building. I cried after graduation, not looking forward to moving on to "foreign territory" - high school.  I felt so safe at SFX. I cried so much after graduation - I just know my heart was broken.

Boy, do I miss growing up on Union Street, SFX and all the good times!

Does any SFX student from the forties and/or fifties remember the late great Father John Kean? Later he became Msgr. Kean but for about the first 20 years of his priesthood he was with us at SFX. Even after he left SFX I would visit him in his various parishes and lastly at the Little Sisters in Queens Village where he stayed until he died in June 1999. All during the 60's, 70's and 80's he would visit me in the various parishes where I was stationed in the Albany diocese. What would you think of an annual memorial Mass [like on a Saturday late morning] each June at SFX Church sacred to his memory? I am a proud 1964 graduate of SFX. My brother, my father, my uncle and my cousins also graduated from SFX. I lived on Union St between 5th and 6th Avenues and I remember walking to and from school each day. I fondly remember our Principal, Brother Cyprian, who also served for a time as the track team coach of which I was a member. I would like to hear from any classmates. I attended SFX starting approximately 1945 (was born 1939) and left Brooklyn for a life in Florida at age 12 in 1950.  We lived at 627 Carroll St. between 5th & 6th Avenues.  The family names were Aiello, Speziale and Digati.  I was recently looking though some old "stuff" and found the little first communion book that all Catholic children receive, belonging to my then friend Carol Donato at 676 (?) President St.  Is it possible that the church still has contact with some members of her family?  I would sure love to get this back to her or her family.  I was friends with Lucy Casso, Joyce Montebello, Vivian Cuccurullo, Barbara Hillman (?).  Our neighbors that I remember were the Castellano's and the Giordano's (across the street).  Well, to my dismay, I am having a senior hiccup and can't remember the others.  I hope you can help me with this.  Oh, Mary Keegan was in my class.  I have my book and am sure Carol would love to have hers.
