In 1913, Reverend David J. Hickey purchased a plot of ground on the north side of President Street and south side of Union Street. On August 15th of that year the ground was broken in order to build St. Francis Xavier's School. the cornerstone was laid on January 18, 1914. Saint Francis Xavier's school containing 18 classrooms with a large auditorium was opened.

Thirteen years later, on January 23, 1927 an annex containing 8 classrooms was added to the main building of the school. As the years progressed, an increase in student enrollment deemed it necessary to add two additional floors to the annex building. These 8 extra classrooms were completed in 1956.
