Our philosophy states that we have high educational standards, striving to educate the whole child and preparing each one to live in a world that's constantly changing. At St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, we not only offer an excellent education but we try to instill a sense of Christian moral values and community awareness in each child as we prepare them to face the challenges they will encounter now, and in the future.
During the past 95 years, our school has opened its heart and doors to all members of the Park Slope community. The school has made the necessary changes to meet the needs of new and diverse ethnic groups, various learning abilities, and talents that our students possess. The faculty and students participate and work toward developing a strong Catholic foundation with our faith community.
Our charitable works reach out to those in need in the neighborhood and world by raising funds for places such as, the Ronald McDonald House, St. Jude Hospital, a new Catholic school in Ghana, West Africa, disaster relief organizations as these unfortunate events occur in our world; by contributing to food drives to benefit CHIPS (Christian Help in Park Slope), and by sending gifts to retired and infirmed Religious Sisters of St. Joseph. We participate in the Clean Sweep program; we march in the neighborhood St. Patrick's Day Parade; and we participate in a Pen Pal Program, send letters to the military overseas and those aspiring to the Catholic priesthood. These and many other activities teach our students that we not only support and care for those in the community of Park Slope but the world.
Our academic program ensures that each child reaches his or her potential by providing the core curriculum of studies, as well as extra-curricular classes. Three-fourths of our 2008 graduating class was accepted into Catholic High Schools, with 23 scholarships totaling a quarter of a million dollars. Our graduates often return for visits to the school and tell us how they are active in their schools and communities, continuing the lessons learned here at St. Francis Xavier School.
We are proud to be a part of the children's lives by enriching them intellectually and spiritually. Not only do we educate them, but we instill the Gospel message of Jesus so that each child will live by their faith, good works, and love of all people. Our community awareness and our spiritual activities form a strong foundation in our students for becoming upright citizens with good moral values. Our motto, "Do to others as you want them to do to you" permeates their daily activities and prepares them to continue their education and assist them to lead productive lives as adults.
